Kimberly completed dual undergraduate degrees in education and special education, graduating summa cum laude, along with a minor in instructional strategies.

The Origin of NeuroToggle®
Developed to protect access to language during a critical period.
When the COVID-19 pandemic suspended in-person educational and therapeutic services, Kimberly’s autistic daughter lost access to the direct support she had been receiving. Virtual therapy was not an effective format for her daughter, who was nonverbal at the time and did not respond meaningfully to remote sessions.
Kimberly was deeply concerned about the risk of language deprivation during a critical period of language development . She understood that her daughter needed immediate access to communication while also receiving targeted support for the sensory, processing, motor, timing, and coordination pathways involved in speech.
Drawing upon her background in education, special education, instructional strategy, and data synthesis, Kimberly constructed an individualized system she could use with her daughter at home. The system was designed around neurobiological principles of how the brain develops, strengthens, coordinates, retains, and accesses the information required to perform a skill or behavior.
Rather than treating speech as an isolated behavior, Kimberly examined the integrated neural systems involved in receiving language, planning a response, and physically producing speech. This included the speech-motor pathways responsible for converting the intention to communicate into coordinated motor output .
She developed targeted learning experiences, observed her daughter’s responses, and continually refined instruction according to what needed to be built, strengthened, expanded, or timed. Over approximately eighteen months, her daughter developed spoken language and became fully conversational.
This experience became the groundwork for NeuroToggle®. Kimberly continued researching, testing, organizing, and formalizing the underlying educational principles into a broader pedagogical framework for teaching skills and behaviors.
NeuroToggle® is not a speech protocol and is not presented as a universal explanation or intervention for nonverbality. Different barriers to speech may require developmental instruction, medical treatment, rehabilitation, accommodation, AAC, or a combination of supports. Kimberly’s broader work on nonverbal autism, communication access, and the different barriers that may prevent a person from accessing speech emphasizes the importance of investigating the underlying mechanism while ensuring that every child has an accessible way to communicate.
What began as an urgent effort to protect her daughter’s access to language became a framework for aligning instruction with the way the brain develops and retains the circuitry required for skills and behaviors.
NeuroToggle®
An instructional framework informed by how learning develops.
NeuroToggle® helps educators identify whether a skill or behavior needs to be built, strengthened, expanded, or timed and then align instruction with that developmental need. When an ineffective or harmful behavior must be replaced, the framework provides a separate pathway for developing a more functional response.
NeuroToggle® is a flexible pedagogical framework—not a fixed curriculum, clinical treatment, or one-size-fits-all protocol. Its purpose is to support more deliberate instructional reasoning while remaining responsive to the individual learner.
